This week went by way faster than I ever thought a week could. We were visited by the two head honchos of the missionary department under Elder Nelson, and we were really spiritually uplifted. After my mission, I don't think technology and the misuse thereof will be a problem. It sounds like the next age of missionary work will prepare the missionaries to be stalwart members in the digital age.
The speakers from the missionary department said that in the first stage of testing, before I got here, they did an anonymous survey of the missionaries, and the only question on the survey was whether they had seen pornography on their iPads. The results were the exact inverse of a study done of the world in general, which concluded that over 90% of males have seen pornography. What a hopeful change this is! The general authorities said that like our generation was trained from birth to 'say no to drugs,' we will need to train the next generation to stay away from pornography. Other than that, they taught us how to use the iPads, and how to stay focused on them. If you have a problem with technology sucking up all your time, I would strongly encourage you to go on a mission.
The next day we had a Mega Zone (3-zone) conference, where we received our new iPads. It was pretty fun, and a new start with iPads is really cool.
The other really notable events of the week took place on Sunday, and center around a family named Ruiz. They have an absolutely adorable 2 year old girl named Ashley (who's super shy and loves walking around singing her little 2 year old songs), and the mother is a member. We've been visiting them for a while, and not making any progress, although we have been getting a lot of really really good food! ;)
Well, this Sunday, the dad showed up to church. It was a miracle! Later that day, we visited them for lunch/dinner. It was Elder Ruiz's birthday, and so they bought a cake for him, and we had a little party. While we were eating, Pedro (the dad) told us he wanted to go every week from now on. How amazing!
We kind of had an awful lot of cake that day. Juan, another investigator, took us out for cake, and the
Riveras, a wonderful member family, invited our district over and a few other members to have a great party.
It's starting to warm up here in Bushwick, and I'm excited for what'll happen this next transfer. It's already time for transfer meeting again! My first transfer is almost over! That's so weird, because it has
gone by so fast.
Les amo todos ustedes,
Elder R B Hull
