Another excerpt from a short letter to Elder Hull's Mom:
Dear mom,
This ones going to be super short. We've had a super busy P day.
On Sunday, the Elders didn't give me the hymns beforehand, and I had only ever heard one of them before, so I completely botched it. That was super stressful, and it set the tone for a really long day. I ended up getting a super bad headache, and we had two meetings after church. Just a very long day. I ended up taking a nap, but not before a Jehovah's Witness tried so very hard to convince me that not only is my religion wrong, but their bible says the same thing that ours says. Not gonna lie, but my opinion of that faith fell dramatically from that encounter. I was super tired, so I wasn't rude or anything, but there was definitely a part of me that really wanted to go off on her. That part really wanted to say 'there is no way on this earth you will ever convince or teach me using your bible. Do you know who we are? Do you know how much we have sacrificed to be here to study and teach religion, a religion we love with all our hearts? Where do you possibly think this conversation is going to go?' But, thankfully, my tiredness and better conscious overruled that thought, and I went and took a very much needed nap.
That afternoon all of our appointments fell through, except one. Guess we were supposed to be there :) This week was hard that way. On my exchanges with the Zone Leaders, literally every single appointment for the day fell through. Every backup plan failed, and to make matters worse, it was raining super hard. It was ok, though. Sometimes you have days like that out here in the mission field. They come, and they go. It was good to be able to talk to someone like me for a day. I've needed that for a while. A pint of ice cream at the end of the day made everything better.
It's really good to hear that Uncle Matt's making some progress, even if the battle's not over yet. He is remembered in my prayers.
You can also tell Grandma and Grandpa Hicken again that I really love the socks they sent me :) I'll get pictures to you next week.
Sorry this one was so short!
Love,
Elder Richard Brandt Hull
